Where Do I Start?

April 29, 2019

It seems there is always something holding us back from doing what we want to do or feel like we were meant to do. I have been asking for feedback from those on our Facebook page, and have created a list of some of the most common things I have heard you say are holding you back from starting your own business.

  • I need more time.
  • I need more money.
  • Where do I start?
  • How do I get merchandise?
  • Can I do this?
  • Do I have what it takes?
  • I don't have childcare.

All you have to do is get started! Just start somewhere. It doesn't have to be perfect. This is a big mistake I think a lot of people make. They feel like the stars have to be aligned for them to follow their heart. It's like driving a car at night. You can only see so far ahead with your headlights, but if you don't move forward, you don't get to see what's down the road.

Here are some ways to get the seed money you may need for your idea. Some businesses actually take less than you think to get started:

  1. Borrow from family and friends. Even $50 from 10 people is enough to do a lot towards starting.
  2. Start saving a little each week. Cut out something that is just $2/day if you have to.
  3. Get an extra job.
  4. Do odd one-off jobs.
  5. Enter contests.
  6. Look for grants if your idea is a non-profit.

Even if you aren't ready to start today, I encourage you to write down your goals of where you want to be in 90 days, one year and five years. If your goal isn't written down, it doesn't exist!
